Supporting causes close to our hearts
Find out what we do to help our chosen charities and the great work that they’re involved in. This includes vital aid for vulnerable children in Africa, help for families and hospitals involved in the fight against meningitis, and other worthy causes that are close to our hearts.
We support some amazing causes
We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved in the mortgage business, but there are times when we stop to acknowledge that there are more important things going on in the world. That’s why we’re so committed to supporting our charity partners and their life-changing efforts to help people who cannot take their health, safety or the roof over their heads for granted.
Mercy Hands Uganda
Mercy Hands Uganda is a community-based organisation founded to improve the lives of vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned children in the African country. We have been helping them provide education and support to these children since 2018.
Georgie’s Gift
Georgie’s Gift was founded by friends of the business, Matt and Paula Hall, in honour of their beloved daughter, Georgie, who tragically passed away from meningitis. We have been helping them raise money to fund the fight against the disease since 2015.
Other causes
In 2020, we helped raise £50,000 through the JustGiving platform to fund cancer treatments for another friend of the business, Lee Welland. We are also proactive about raising awareness of mental health issues and have added a customer Wellbeing Hub to our website.
Why we climbed Mount Kilimanjaro
In 2016, our managing director, Pete Mugleston, braved the punishing altitudes of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for Georgie’s Gift and the fantastic work they do supporting families affected by meningitis, as well as leading the fight against the disease. Joined by 17 of the charity’s other supporters, the trek smashed its £60,000 fundraising target by more than 200% and attracted plenty of great press coverage for Georgie’s Gift.
Our work with Mercy Hands Uganda
Mercy Hands Uganda was founded to improve the lives of vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned children in the African country, but also to provide support to the needy and the elderly there. With the help of funds raised by Online Mortgage Advisor, the charity was able to renovate and open a much-needed primary school, as well as provide food and healthcare for local children.
How we raise money for our chosen charities
We’ve held several charity award ceremonies to raise proceeds for these worthy causes, and we also appeal for donations at regular auction events and other charitable shindigs.
What you can do to help
We strongly encourage you to visit the websites of our charity partners to find out more about them and consider supporting the good causes they represent.
Why we chose these causes
At Online Mortgage Advisor, we’re passionate about the charitable causes we get behind, and they’re close to our hearts for a reason. For our managing director, Pete, Mercy Hands Uganda is a family cause, as his parents – Elaine and John Mugleston – have been trustees of the charity since it was formally set up in 2018, and are actively involved in all fundraising campaigns.
Georgie’s Gift was chosen not just because it was started by two friends of the business in honour of their late daughter, but also because of the essential work it does supporting families who have been affected by meningitis and helping hospitals in the fight against the disease.
These amazing charities won’t be the last causes we throw our support behind. We’re always looking for ways to give something back and can’t wait to tell you about our next projects.
